Had this 17 for a fair while, its took a lot of foxes, roos, rabbits, hares and a few pigs, mainly in the spotlight, did a lot of fox shooting for skins to sell. Also it give them crows something to think about. About the only original bit left would be the action its had a couple of barrels over the years, and a fiberglass stock

That is a nice rifle Steve. What scope is that you have on it?

Looks like a winner. I know the 17 Rem is a centerfire. How does the 17 HRM compare to the 17 Rem?

Redhawk as far as I know the 17rem leaves 17hrm for dead, The 17rem if loaded up with a 25gr projectile will put them out at over 4000fps the other not close. the biggest advantage is being to reload them so you have a lot of options in projectiles as well as velocity

Thanks Aussie, I figured it would be like that.I've never messed with the 17 Rem. I have a Savage 17 HRM ready to shoot but haven't had time to go to the range.I've only had it a year last April LOL.There's others that have waited longer then that.A buddy had the Rem 5mm.He said it was a nice little cartridge until the ammo dried up.He sold it and never looked back

Redhawk I have never fired 17HRM, I reckon it would make a good foxing rifle with a bit of practice to see how much drop over different distances, it will be interesting when you get the chance to shot it, on its performance

Aussie, From what I been hearing the little 17HRM is impressive.I had an order that was on back order for Hornady 17's. After a couple months CCI became available. They had no idea when the Hornady would be available.so I'll be trying the CCI out when I finally get to the range.Sometime back(before they were released) a Ruger rep was talking about the performance they were getting for the little 17 HMR.They were very impressed with it.Honestly I don't remember what he said now, but I do remember the praise he had for the rifle and the little cartridge. I'm sure it will do well on small varmints.
