How far will you shoot at game?
On big game, I limit my shots to under 300 yards. But on coyotes and other varmints, I'll shoot at them if I can see 'em. Took out a Coyote once at 509 (lazer rangefinder) yards with a 300 Win Mag once.

Ditto! won't go past 300 unless i have a good long range gun! .243 would probably do it but i just don't like taking chances at wounding an animal!

I would be confident taking a three hundred yard shot if conditions were right. The longest shots so far has been around 200 yards on a field which I shot 3 or 4 deer that season at approx.200 + range. They dropped in their tracks.

Don't recall any over 200-250yds., most have been way under that. Last seasons tally was a buck at 20yds. during muzzleloading season and a doe at 80yds. with the Sharps. I'm real confident in the Sharps out to 400-450yds, a good hit in a deer size kill zone is a given. Made some shots yesterday at 650yds. that would've took one out, but not quite as confident in that extra couple hundred yards.

For big game I won't take a shot no farther than 200yds out.

I'll go 400+ under the right conditions, and what gun I have that day, if I can kill deer at almost 300 yards with a peice of junk Ruger 257 Roberts I know I can go 300 to 400 with a 308, or one of the new WSM's, I've seen human kill's taken out to 900+ yards with a M-23 Remington 7.62, or 308, and they were all head shots!

No miss out to 300yd with my .270 and 90 gr. hand loads. I take it you're using the .270 w/ 90 grain loads for varmints? And a shotgun for biggame? Now to me, that just doesn't make sense. Why in the world would any State restrict your use of high powered rifles for big game, but then allow them where the circumstances of the game, would require rifles and shooters to consistently shoot further than they normally would on big game? They're theory of "the shotgun is safer" is crap at that point (assuming that's their reasoning for shotguns during big game season). I wonder if anyone ever pointed that out to them?
