I don,t know about in your country over here in Aust, 410 shotgun cartridges are only available in small shot size( 7, 8, ) I reload some of the 3in cases, they are firing at the same velocity of a 12g only a lot less shot. In the reloads I have used any thing from BB to 8 in shot size. A friend has a solid slug 410gauge bullet mould, he has good success with those loaded on different game

The .410 shotgun is a versatile little gun. Great for kids, and good if you do a lot of shooting and don't want a lot of recoil.
However, while just about any cartridge/shell will kill just about any game animal, what you want as a hunter is an ethical, fast kill. Turkeys can travel a looooooooooooooooooooooong way when wounded, even mortally. And if they get airborne, they're darn near impossible to track. AND, it's pretty difficult to get a wild turkey in to only 20 yards away from you. Do you have the patience to not shoot if he hangs up at 30 yards? Do you have the range estimating skills to accurately judge the difference between 20 and 30 yards?
Sorry, I'll have to respectfully disagree with your Dad. The minimum that I want for turkey hunting is a 12 gauge with #4 shot in a 3" magnum shell. You owe it to yourself and the animal you pursue to make any kill fast and clean.
Good luck!

Have to agree with Danny on this one. As a hunter it is your responsibilty to take your quarry as humanely as possible.
Later,

I would have to agree with Danny and Renegade. When you take a shot it should be as clean of a shot as possible. Don't get me wrong I'm sure we have all made a shot that was less then perfect. I had a friend that shot a doe but she was not dead. I heard her floping around and waited about 10 seconds before I put one through her head since he wasn't going to. My point is I think the game should suffer as little as possible. Later Mike
