I seen a string loop come off on a guy and gave him a big fat lip ....I think I will stay with shooting off the string.

I will never shoot my bow without one ever again, I love mine.
And stay with the string type........don't need a chunk of metal flying all around.

String loops have advantages and disadvantages. Some of the advantages is that it saves wear and tear on your string, places the release directly behind the nock, and eliminates the severe angle of the string at that point so the arrow remains nocked without slipping off.
One disadvantage is that it increases your (not the bows) draw length and you may have to compensate for this by decreasing the bows draw length or twist the string down. Both of these options changes the draw weight and tune of the bow. If you don't compensate, you can develope bad shooting form due to the over-extension of yourself at full draw.
Metal vs. String. String loops are "gentler" on the bowstring than metal can be. Plus, the metal loops, while lightweight, are much heavier than the string type and can reduce your arrow speed between 5 and 10 fps. Directly behind the arrow is the absolute worse place to add weight to your string.
