While I feel your desparity over this issue, I need to point out the severe impact a mass deportation would cause. It would cost the government millions of dollars to round-up and deport all the illegal immigrants that are currently in the U.S. And, the effect on the economy of these workers would be devastating.
The whole issue of registering is not a bad idea. You take all the illegals and tell them they have 90 days to register. Once they register, they start paying taxes like the rest of us. After two years, they have to become U.S. citizens or risk deportation (which would be much easier now that we know who they are and where they are at). To become a U.S. citizen, they must have a working knowledge of reading and writing in English. Anyone not registering in the 90 day time frame, or still living here after the two years without becoming a U.S. citizen is then a felon and subject to deportation and/or prison.
We're not going to stop the flood of illegals coming into our country. It's just not financially or physically possible. So, let's put those already here to good use, and start enforcing our border laws more aggressively.
