We have been having problems in the past of grasshoppers eating our food plots. We have started planting later in the season, and it helps some. This year we are planting one area with rye grass because we have some cattle out there and they will eat the good stuff. It is the other land we are having problems with. It gets plenty of sun, and it drains good, so any suggestions as what to plant? It is close to the river so It has very rich soil.

Well it depends on your land and habitat. Since your in Vicksburg, the land is vertile from the River and small streams and creeks, Deer love cotton, purple hull peas in your area, but I would also plant some clover, peas, millet, and some annauls

I will check out that site and compare it with the farm supply in port gibson, they tend to give a better deal since we are gonna have to buy so much seed. So far they have quoted us $640.00 a ton for the grass seed, and we know we'll need at least that plus another 2-300#, along with whatever we plant at the other field. Any more suggestions will be very helpful!!

One of the first thing to have done would be to have the soil tested, if your having problem with the crops in that area. Not only is it worth while but very beneficial, if the soil is lacking in a mineral or sometimes to high in some minerals they will suggest a fertilizer that is more suited to your type of soils need
