Is it possible to lay out a small food plot for deer, turkey and other animals? Like one that is 10' by 10' or something, or maybe a little bigger.. Because we (my parents and i) are moving out to Orange County Virginia and we bought 20 acres of land and we want to watch the deer and sometimes hunt them.. So do you think this little food plot will work? or do i need a bit more acerage to make a successful plot? thanks for any advice and god bless

like a ten foot by ten foot square of like clover or something..will that work? one that is ten foot long and 10 foot wide. Or do i need to go a little bit bigger? Like 50 foot by 50 foot... I want a food plot so that we can watch the deer eat and play and etc.. How big do you think i should put one on 20 acres? We are only gonna clear out a few acres for a big yard..we are going to leave the rest woods so we can hunt and ride ATVs and etc. How big do you think the plot should be on 20 acres? Your opnion.. Thanks God bless

Well that depends on your est. deer population. On my plott I have a 50yrd by 100 plott. And the deer keep it mowed to the ground. On 20 acres I would suggest at least 1 acre of it be in plott. Be sure to get your soil ph levels right, the right fertilizer, and most importantly keep the plott up(maintain) I would plant annuals (they come up every year without beeing replanted) and a mixture of peas, millet, sunflower, clover, and rye this will give your deer all the protien that they should need. Oops I forgot I would also plant a big patch of purple hull peas as the deer seem to love them and they are rich in protien. I hope this helps you out. This is all just my opion

a 2x3 area would work really, all it has to do is hold the deer there long eneough for you to shoot a deer We are not really looking forward to shooting them...more looking forward to watching them, every year or so my dad will let me kill a doe for practice with my bow and if Mr.Big comes up that my dad will take him.. 2 foot by 3 foot? or 2 yard by 3 yard? I don't need a tiny tiny itty bitty thing, i wan't one that i could be proud of and to really keep the deer in and to give them their minerals and protein they need.. Like BT said 1 acre.. Well..really i would go with a 50X50 foot plot that is perfect for us..if not then i will expand it.. Thanks for the suggestions gentlmen! I may not even make one..we might just throw out corn and watch them lol! God bless

try to pick one without all the trees, you will have a rough time pulling up roots, real rough well ya see that's when our tractor and bulldoser comes in.. We are going to clear out a few acres of open field and i was thinking of putting this plot in the field, but i wanted to know, how big the plot would be for deer, because my parents say you need 100 or more acres to make a food plot, but i am sure on this land you can make a small one to watch deer eat and play.. So i am asking, how big do you guys think this plot should be for 20 acres? God bless

Archery season starts like October 5th or something and gun season starts in November, late november i think.. that's when the rut is..November, late november to early december.. October is a month where i just stay in the stand and wait for something to come up.. I got me a Tink's buck lure, Tink's scent bombs (4) and a grunt call, so i will work on the bucks this rut..that's whats bad where i hunt, you can't use rattling antlers because the buck to doe ratio is stable...no bucks ever fight over does.. Grunt calling works and i will find out if they will respond to my mock scrapes, doe pee trails and scent bombs.. I am sure they will..last year i was so eager to go out and kill a big buck that when the rut came through, i forgot to set out my bombs, tink's buck lure and i used my grunt call only once.. But this year is going to be different, i have a whole new strategy ready.. good luck this hunting season and god bless
