hey Just curious what everyone was planting.... what type of fertilizer you r using and about how big a plot r u planting......we plated some strip plots of cowpeas with 8-8-8 in the woods about 50 yds long and 15 ft wide and the deer mowed em down to the ground after 3 weeks.

We haven't planted any yet. I did buy some Deer Mix at Walmart a week or so ago. It has several different grains in it.What we are going to do is take my tiller up and plant on the Firebreaks. I just installed a Moultrie Seed Spreader on the 4 wheeler. The firebreaks should be in good shape. Break them up with the tiller. Spread the seed and lightly cover it dragging a piece of chain link fence. Not sure what fert we'll use.

we were using 8-8-8 fertilzer on previous plots with decent results..... we switched to 13-13-13 and it made a huge difference... the plots really thickened up and got a lot greener.....we are primarily in a pine forest area and i believe the soil is more acidic than we realized.... thanks Kevin

I used Whitetail Institute Extreme this Year and the Deer won't leave it alone. I have Deer on that Food Plot form 4:30 in the Afternoon until Dark ! This Product is suposed to last for up to 5 Years and I think I will be adding it to all of my food Plots Next Spring ! I use Oats and Rye for the Winter.
