Lately the Pastor at my church as been asking me about carry permits and how to go about getting one. Being the up-standing guy that I am, I told him of all the hoops that he had to jump through and a few of the restrictions. Today before service, he came up to me and asked me if I had my gun. Him asking me this question struck me as being a bit odd. I told him I had my gun but not on my person as I didn't know how he and the rest of the congregation would feel about me packin' in the church house. I also told him that IF something were to happen, I had a plan on how to get to my gun and take care of business if need be. He told me that he was glad that someone had a plan in case something were to happen.
Then I got really thinking about my "plan". Came to the realization that it wouldn't work very well in defending my family both personal and church families. I dove back into the NC CCH statute and didn't find anything prohibiting concealed carry in a church. My hangup on doing so, is more of a moral dilemma more than anything else. For one, it's church, God's house of worship, how would he feel about me taking a gun into is house? Would I be taking away part of what God has said is his job to protect us from evil? Or would I be the one he uses to keep the church from those that wish to do harm to the members of the church?
Any insight or opinions that you guys have would be greatly appreciated.
Later,
Dave

As long as it's legal, I see no reason you shouldn't carry in a church if there's a reasonable belief that it's necessary. What I don't get is, you make it sound like the minister is expecting trouble, and glad you can get to your gun. I think I'd delve a little more into what's going on before I got herded into a situation where it would be necessary to use deadly force.

Renegade you know my feelings from over at Gun Knutz.Looks like Danny and I have the same feelings, what's going on that the Pastor hasn't said.Once again something has triggered the Pastor for him to bring up that subject.

ALthough it is illegal to carry in church in Georgia, I don't see any moral reason not to. As to usurping God's athority to protect you, that is not confined to the church building. Besides, I see it that God has given you the right & ability to protect your family. That is part of how he protects you (and others around you). Try www.packing.org to research gun laws in your state.

There isn't anything in the NC laws that prohibit carrying in church, UNLESS that church runs a daycare/pre-school on the same property, then it's off limits.
